Modern Yorkshire Wedding

FAQs

How would you describe your style?

I’m drawn to gorgeous light, rich colours, bold compositions and, most importantly, the irresistible connections between the people in front of my camera. I love how the tiny details, candid portraits, textures and abstractions complement the more traditional wedding imagery I make. These seemingly inconsequential but utterly vital photos allow the marquee moments to breathe a little, resulting in a meaningful final gallery that has an immediate impact upon viewing.

Do you do this full-time?

I do. I started in sports and commercial photography while living in New Zealand a few years ago. But since returning to the UK I’ve been focussed primarily on weddings.

+ In 2019 I was named Europe’s Best New Talent by BODAF and later that year I was included in the top 30 Rising Stars of World Wedding Photography by Rangefinder Magazine in New York.

+ In 2020 I was named one of SLR Lounge’s Top 100 UK photographers

+ as well as being named as one of Elle Magazine’s Top 17

So it’ll actually be you there on the day?

Absolutely. Being there myself on your wedding day is a key part of the process. For bigger weddings and those where the logistics of the day mean I’m unable to cover every aspect, I have a selection of trusted assistants to second shoot and add some extra angles to my own. For larger, multi-day events, I’m also happy to bring a team of associates to work under my direction.

What areas of the UK do you cover? Do you ever shoot destination weddings?

I’m based near York, but I cover weddings throughout the UK and abroad. The majority take place in London and the Cotswolds, but I have weddings in the Scottish Highlands and Cornwall nearly every year too. I genuinely love travelling, and I can count France, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Australia, Japan, the US and Denmark as destinations that my job has taken me to.

What do we do if it rains?

While bad weather is always a big worry for couples, it doesn’t have to be. While it’s advisable to always have a Plan B (an area away from the rain and wind where you and your guests can shelter) some of my favourite shots have been taken outside in conditions where the couple has taken it on with humour and good grace.

Do you take any formal or group/family photos?

Of course. It’s a great idea to take a selection of formal group shots as it’s not often that families will all be together in one place, so why not make the most of it. But while I’m more than happy to oblige, I do recommend keeping these to the most essential ones (bridal party, immediate and extended families, bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc) so we don’t eat into too much of your precious time.

How long do you stay on the day?

Usually, from prep (approx a couple of hours before the ceremony) right up until I have enough images of the reception. A full day is around 10 hours, but I tend to only call it a day when I’ve got enough images from each part of the wedding. This is usually something we’ll discuss in the build up.

How many photos can I expect? What's the turnaround time?

The turnaround time on a gallery from a typical wedding day is between 8-10 weeks, with smaller weddings taking between 6-8 weeks, and multi-day weddings taking around 12 weeks. A full wedding day will provide you with around 450 fully edited shots to look back on. For larger weddings which cover multiple days or those where a second shooter has been requested, the yield will be approximately double that. For small weddings, you can expect around half that number.

Are you insured?

Absolutely. I have full public liability insurance, and I’ll happily provide evidence of cover if you, your planner or your wedding venue requires it.

Help! I don’t like my photo being taken!

I understand that a lot of people don’t like having their photographs taken so I work in a friendly and unobtrusive way to minimise any awkwardness. I never ask anybody to hold a smile or hold each other in a peculiar way. I’m all about light, details, colour and fleeting moments. Have a look through my wedding portfolio or Instagram page and you should get the idea.

Do you require us to provide you with a meal/refreshments on the day?

If your planner, venue or caterers can provide me with a meal on your wedding day, I would appreciate it. If you are unable to do so, please let me know in good time so I can organise something.

Can I let other people see my wedding photos?

Your online gallery is password-protected, but by all means, feel free to pass on the links to whoever you wish and share away on social media, too.

Can my friends and family purchase any prints?

Of course. There are a number of print options in the online gallery area. Remember though, you will have the high-resolution images as well so you could pass the images onto them directly if you wish.

How do we secure our date with you?

Once we’ve had a chat and you’re both happy to proceed, you’ll need to pay a 25% booking fee (which comes off the total cost of your wedding package). I’ll also send you a digital contract that will need to be viewed and signed, too. As soon as I have both of these, your booking will be confirmed.
